Electronic Arts buy out Playfish...............
Posted by GLADIATOR-nVts-
AnnouncementsElectronic Arts Inc has acquired privately held Playfish for $275 million (164.5 million pounds) in cash plus other consideration as the maker of the "Madden NFL" series expands in the growing social gaming sector. Skip related content

EA paid about $275 million in cash for 2-year-old Playfish, which makes games for people to play on computers with friends, unlike traditional videogames that need dedicated consoles.

Playfish's hits include the game show-styled "Who Has the Biggest Brain?" and virtual pet game "Pet Society," which boasts some 21 million users a month. The games are free, but players can purchase or give away virtual goods -- such as flowers, clothes, furnishings and weapons.
The deal includes another $25 million in equity retention arrangements, and the sellers could reap another $100 million, contingent upon the achievement of certain performance milestones through 2011, London-based Playfish said.

EA said the acquisition accelerated its position in social entertainment and strengthened its focus on the transition to digital and social gaming.
"The great thing about games is people play and pay for games -- what we are seeing change is the model in which they are doing so," said EA Interactive executive Barry Cottle.

"You typically paid a significant up-front price to play a game, and now we are seeing -- with platforms like Facebook and (Apple's) Apps store -- it's a free or near-free environment in order to get into a game," he added. "It's more now play-to-pay, instead of pay-to-play."

To be sure, the traditional U.S. videogame software market is expected to grow, with sales seen reaching $19.5 billion in 2013 from $14.7 billion in 2008, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers. But more nontraditional players, also called "casual" gamers, are entering the market through social gaming and other new avenues.

The deal comes at a crucial time in the videogame market, where sales have slumped this year amid a dearth of blockbuster titles and as consumers carefully watch their spending habits due to the tough economy.

Even price cuts in recent months for Sony's PlayStation 3, Microsoft's Xbox and the Nintendo Wii failed to have a dramatic effect on sales of games. But some expect the market to turn this holiday season, with the launch of big titles, including Activision Inc's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."

Playfish is owned by its founders, management, staff and outside investors that include Index and Accel. It has more than 150 million games installed and played worldwide on platforms such as Facebook, MySpace, Google, and Apple's iPhone.

Playfish Chief Executive Officer Kristian Segerstrale will stay on with the company, which will operate within EA Interactive, which focuses on Web and wireless games.

EA shares were up 2 percent at $19.38 in afternoon trading.

Operation Flashpoint 2 .... (Release Date: ETA July 2009)

About This Game

Building on the original game's heritage, Operation Flashpoint 2 aims to deliver the most realistic modelling of conflict scenarios in a new contemporary theatre of war. By offering a multitude of military disciplines, gameplay delivers warfare more realistic and intense then ever before, while an extensive multiplayer component creates battles on an incredible scale. The game challenges a new generation of players to survive the chaos and rapidly evolving situations of military combat in a new and contemporary warzone.

General Features

Operation Flashpoint 2 gives players the freedom to handle military crisis situations on their initiative. Unscripted missions task players with real objectives, such as laying down covering fire, covering a friendly unit’s retreat or conducting short-range recon patrol. Armed with cutting edge military hardware, players will need to balance brute force with intelligent use of tactics. Once players have completed the campaign, a Mission Editor enables gamers to create their own single player and multiplayer missions

Players command and control a wide variety of multi-component, multi-weapon vehicles, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, APCs, attack and utility helicopters. Fully loaded weapons and individual ammunition types are simulated with detailed ballistic physics, based upon individually-crafted mechanics. The character damage system authentically depicts the terrible wounds and injury from modern weapons to communicate the reality of combat

Players fight as infantry soldiers in battle, drive tanks in armored assaults, pilot helicopters in air strikes, and infiltrate the enemy in covert special operations utilizing a wide variety of realistic military weapons from knives and rifles to machine guns, grenade launchers and laser designators for air strikes. In whichever role the player chooses, they experience the fierce and brutal reality of warfare and the shock and awe of contemporary firepower unleashed on the arresting scale of modern combat

Immense play areas of more than 135 square miles give players a multitude of tactical decisions on how to best accomplish missions. Densely packed with environment detail and objects, valleys, mountains, coastlines, towns, villages and industrial complexes all combine to deliver a rich and challenging tactical environment. The world is persistent, so that buildings destroyed in one campaign mission will be destroyed in the next

Operation Flashpoint 2 models the environment, objects and people in realistic detail, but its visual styling will embrace documentary techniques. The camera work through cut-scenes is heavily influenced by television war reports that are often shot under extreme circumstances delivering a unique look with incorrect exposure, severe camera shake and loss of focus.

Delta Force Xtreme 2 info & Screenshots
Posted by GLADIATOR-nVts-
InformationRavenn, employee of NovaLogic, has released the following information:

Note - this is not a press release - we'll be doing that soon, hopefully. I've been seeing the same questions pop up and I'll answer some of 'em here...

1. Is dfx2 due out in february? amazon and some other sites are taking pre orders for the game for dates between the 9 - 21 of Feb 09.

There is no firm date, but I think March is more accurate, based on Marketing and Distribution needs. Gives us more time to polish it anyways.

2. Is dfx2 made on the same engine as DFAF?

No, DFX2 is not using the DFAF engine, and yes, it's a totally separate game, and it's not a replacement for DFAF.

3. Is DFX2 being shipped on dvd-rom or cd-rom? depending on what web site pre order I read some say cd some say dvd.

I'm pretty sure it's on DVD - we're planning on including a lot of content for mappers.

4. Please can you tell me the spec of system needed to run DFX2?

Not official yet, but it will basically run fine on the same specs as DFX. It will probably have a larger HD footprint, and a little more RAM and juice on the video card isn't going to hurt - but if you can run DFX fine now - you'll be ok.

Also, DFX2 is not a remake or update of DF2 as a lot of people have been speculating. It's original missions, all new maps and terrains (plus all the old terrains as well)

Anti-cheat and hack reporting will be much more solid than previous games

Information provided by Nova Inside

They also released some terrain screenshots which will remind us of DF2 and DFLW, giving me back that good old feeling.

Lineage @ Novaveterans

The World of Lineage II

The world of Lineage II is a war-torn land spanning two continents, where trust and betrayal clash as three kingdoms vie for power. The young king Raoul has successfully quenched a civil war and established the newest kingdom, Aden. Elmore, the military superpower located in the northern part of the continent, boasts that it is a direct descendent of ancient Elmoreden kingdom. Gracia, located across the ocean on the west, is currently embroiled in a chaotic battle among blood relatives trying to take over the throne. These kingdoms share a delicate balance of power; however, within each kingdom they are vulnerable to internal strife, as each manor has strong desire for self-rule.

You have been thrown into this chaos. However, unlike the ordinary people who pray each day for safety, you have the power to protect yourself. In Lineage II, developing a character is not an end in itself. Rather, it is your instrument to obtain the power to enforce your will in this world. Seize your destiny! Your own hand will write the history of this world.

Combat System

In Lineage II, what you see on the screen is in real time. Therefore, it is critical to make an appropriate decision quickly for every situation you get in. Lineage II pursues both strategic features and action-oriented features by offering client-server synchronization and production of a client's battle at the same time.

You will battle monsters with superior AI, use skills that need to be selected according to each particular situation, overcome situations through teamwork with other clan members, and experience action that is always thrilling, even when you kill a single monster.

Uniquely Specialized Races and Classes

Human

Humans are the race of diversity and potential. Among all creatures, Humans were the weakest. However, they have cultivated their own destiny and are now the most influential of the races. Among all races, they have the highest proportion of people holding high level professions, and they have the balanced capability to handle all types of professions.

The representative secondary classes for Humans are Knight, Warrior, Rogue, Cleric, and Wizard.

Elf

Elves worship the goddess of water, Eva. They have slim figures and long ears, and are characterized by their pure and innocent beauty. During the Era of Giants, they were the most powerful of the races. However, since the giants were destroyed and the era of power arrived, the power of the Elves has declined. Now, they dwell in the Elven Forest, part of Aden.

Secondary classes for Elves include Elven Knight, Elven Scout, Elven Wizard, and Elven Oracle.

Dark Elf

Dark Elves follow Shilen, the goddess of death who used to be the goddess of water before her fall from grace.

Originally, the Dark Elves used to belong to the Elven tribes. When the Elves were defeated by Humans, some of the Elves decided to learn black magic, the power of Gran Kain and Shilen, in order to obtain the power to defeat Humans. Their overall appearance is similar to that of Elves. However, they are taller and have dusky skin and silvery hair.

Dark Elves evolve into Palus Knight, Assassin, Dark Wizard, and Shillien Oracle classes.

Orc

Orcs, the race of fire, serve the god Pa'agrio. Among all the races, they have the most powerful physical strength.

After the destruction of the giants, they were able to chase out the force of Elves and gain the most powerful position on the continent. However, they were defeated by the Elf-Human alliance, and are now living in the arctic territory located in the northern part of the continent.

Orc secondary classes consist of Orc Raider, Monk, and Orc Shaman.

Dwarf

The Dwarves are the race of earth. They like to create things, possessing strong physical power and excellent manual dexterity.

After the destruction of the giants, the Dwarven race adopted the policy of "siding with the most powerful," and as a result they became an isolated race. Their structure of society can be compared to a giant corporation. Even though Humans rule over the continent, Dwarves are renowned for their business savvy and capacity for organization. The Dwarf classes are divided into Scavengers, who find and retrieve raw materials, and Artisans, who manufacture products out of raw materials.

Kamael

The Kamael are born into their destined religion that serves an absolute ruler called the ?Mother Nornil?. Under the Mother Nornil, they devote their faith in the Goddess of Past, who rules history, the Goddess of Present, who records everything happening at this moment, and the Goddess of Future, who forecasts what?s to come.

Kamael have an affinity towards darkness. Because of this they can increase their own or decrease an enemy?s resistance to darkness, or bestow a darkness buff to their attacks. The Kamael can consume the souls of their enemies and turn the souls into energy to fuel their own skills. Most of their skills such as laying traps, buffs and magic can only be activated upon consuming a certain number of souls.

Kamael secondary classes, Trooper and Warder, are based on gender, but both derive their talents from that of the Soldier.

Raising Dragons

The taming system in Lineage allowed players to tame dogs and wolves as pets. A pet system exists in Lineage II as well. However, this time not only can you raise a wolf, but dragons and other animals.
The system for raising a dragon is somewhat different from the general taming system. If you would like to raise a dragon, you must first obtain the Hatchling from a quest. The Hatchling is similar in size to a dog, cute in appearance, and considers and obeys the player who hatched him as a parent. The Hatchling fights like other pets and gradually grows as it gains experience.

When the Hatchling reaches a certain level of experience, the second stage of raising your dragon begins: the Hatchling becomes a Strider. The Strider is a dragon that runs across the land at high speed, like a horse, carrying his master on his back. The Strider also gains experience through fighting and raises its level as it gradually grows.

To obtain a Wyvern, the final stage of raising a dragon, the castle lord must speak to the Wyvern Manager at the uppermost floors of the castle. The player travels the world on the Wyvern, flames shooting from its mouth as it goes around all barriers, and performs an independent role in siege warfare.

Parties and Clans

Characters in Lineage II have diverse and unique traits. When they combine their power, they can become a very powerful force as they work together to defeat a powerful enemy. While hunting solo in a dangerous area, you may meet a passerby and discover that the two of you are of like mind, and so you form a party.

If you hunt in a party often, you will probably get a regular group together with whom you meet up regularly. Perhaps the group will have various goals and ambitions. When a group shares the same goal and has firm convictions, they will establish a clan. The goal can be mere friendship and fraternization, ongoing self-training, or the overthrow of the current castle rulers. A clan is a gathering of people who share the same mission and try together to accomplish a common goal.

Dramatic Castle Sieges

The power of the King is strong, but the King cannot ignore the Castle Lords. The local Lords have power similar to the King in the territory he rules, and each lives in a huge castle built in the territory. Most of the Lords rebuilt the fortress ruins of the Era of Giants that still remained and now use them as their castles; even after thousands of years the excellence of the ancient technologies easily surpasses modern fortification technology. A strong castle is one of the most important defenses for the Lord.
Other clans who attempt to seize power also want to own a castle. Since the purpose of the many clans is to rule the territory according to their ideals, the capturing of the castle is their ultimate goal.

Siege warfare is an innovative PvP combat system that began in Lineage. Lineage II's siege warfare has two major goals: to bring out the best player strategies, and to create evolving political drama and excitement. Siege warfare can continuously create different strategies, even after several months or several years, and will leave you breathless and excited when you stand fully armed with your allies in front of the taken castle.

Numerous privileges are given to the clans who occupy the castle. They impose a tax on the shops around the castle, expand the facilities within the castle, manufacture various items, and offer the Castle Lord a Wyvern to conquer the sky. There are various systems in which the castle-owning clans operate and maintain many public facilities used by other players to make a profit. In this structure, the players and the clan who occupy the castle get win-win results through systems like the manor system. Even the clan that is strongest in force cannot maintain political power without support from other players.
